Willie Mae Addie Burton transitioned into the arms of the LORD peacefully on October 29, 2012.
Willie Mae was born in Akron, Ohio to the late Elizabeth Howard-Addie, and Willie Addie. She graduated from Robinson, and East High Schools, and briefly attended Hammel Actual Business College.
During World War II, she worked at BF Goodrich Tire Company. She was a member of the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System, and retired from the Broadview State Developmental Center. Known as "The Cook", her most memorable employment was as the head cook and supervisor at West Junior High School. Many students fondly remember the introduction of her Sloppy Joes and great peanut butter cookies as "the best ever".
Willie Maw was affectionately called "Willa, Wilmae, Aunty, Gram, Grandma, Gramma WillieMae, Mother, Meeny, and sometimes just Ma, Mom and Sister Burton.
Willie Mae had a faithful Christian walk. She was a working, edifying member of the Mount Olive Baptist Church. It was her other life. From Sunday School days when the Church was located on Blaine Street, moving to Bartges and Coburn Streets, and then finally to its current location on Slosson Street, Mother was a true and faithful member. She was involved in foreign and home missions. She worked with children, leading the "Sunbeamers of the Sunshine Band". She sang in the annual Women's Day choirs, was a Mistress of Ceremonies for countless church events. She planned and supervised the church kitchens, banquets, and picnics. She was instrumental on committees. Planning committees, pastors' aides, she represented for various national, state and local conventions, always for Mt. Olive. She distributed for the church Food Bank. Until health issues in July 2012 caused her attendance to slacken, she was a giving, loving and constant member of Mt. Olive. She continued to read her Bible, worshiped and praised the LORD at her home. Occassionally, this past summer she was seen at the Lock 4 praise concerts, lifting her hands upwards to Heaven giving God the Glory. What a love and blessing she was and is to us-her family. We can say no more.
"This Little Light of Mine", "Jesus Loves Me", "Yes, I Put It All in His Hands", "How Great Thou Art, and "His Eye is on the Sparrow".
Willie Mae was proceeded in death by her husband, Roy Louis Burton Jr.; Parents, Elizabeth Howard-Addie and Willie Addie; brothers, Thomas "Tom" and James Addie, William Mobley; sisters, Ella Mae Shelton, and Rosa Lee Smith.
