Paul Rodney McDowell, 52, a well-known resident of Connellsville who was loved by many, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2006, while in the Shadyside Hospital, Pittsburgh.

He was born Dec. 26, 1953, in Connellsville, a son of the late Charles and Martha Lowry McDowell.

Paul was a graduate of Connellsville High School, class of 1971. He received his associate's degree in business from Penn State University in 1975 and recently achieved his goal of completing his bachelor of science degree in accounting from Marywood University on May 14, 2006.

Paul had worked in the financial field for more than 25 years and was currently employed by U.S. Auto Mart in Adamsburg, where he was vice president of banking. Paul was an active member of the Connellsville Jaycees in the 1970s and 80s, where he held many offices including president, district director and statesman. He had the honor of being named ambassador with the United States Jaycees. He also won numerous awards and was listed in the Outstanding Young Men of America 1982 edition, a program endorsed by the United States Jaycees honoring men for their outstanding civic and professional contributions to their community, state and nation.

Paul was a member of the Connellsville BPO Elks 503 where he served as past exalted ruler in 1991-92. He was also a member of the Connellsville Moose 16, King Solomon's Lodge 346 F&AM, Uniontown Lodge of Perfection and the Consistory Valley of Pittsburgh. He also was a member of the National Rifle Association.

Over the years Paul had become interested in tracing his family ancestry and was able to live his dream of visiting Scotland with his wife, Eileen, in the summer of 2005. Paul was a Christian and a firm believer in the Bible.

Left to cherish his memories are his loving and devoted wife of 24 years, Eileen Kocik McDowell; his three children of whom he was most proud, Adam Paul McDowell, a 2006 summa cum laude graduate of Duquesne University, who will attend Duquesne School of Law this fall, his "little girl" Katie Ann McDowell, a junior psychology education major at St. Vincent College, and his "chess champion, cartoon companion" Sean Michael McDowell; his sister, Audrey Hall and her husband, Raymond, of Connellsville; and his brothers, Charles "Butchie" McDowell, of Masontown, Daniel McDowell and his wife, Alfaretta, of Salisbury, N.C., and David McDowell and his wife, Brenda, of Masontown; and his brothers-in-law, Andrew and Bernard Kocik; and many loving nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who will miss his heartwarming smile and ornery ways.

Family and friends will be received from noon to 9 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, the hour of a funeral service, in the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., 111 E. Green St., Connellsville, with Pastor James Jobes officiating. A committal service and interment will follow in the St. John's Cemetery, Brookvale. Love never ends. The Elks 503 will conduct a service at 7 p.m. Friday and the Moose 16 will conduct a service at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.
