The Rev. Parris Wood 62, of Dublin, former pastor of First Pentecostal Holiness Church for 24 years, died Monday night in Pulaski Community Hospital.

Born June 23, 1921 in Vago, Greenbrier County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Parris Edmond Wood and Bessie Beatrice Hurd Wood.

He was licensed to preach in 1949 and ordained in 1951. He pastored three other churches, Tazewell, 1951-52; Coalwood, 1951-52, and St. Paul in Wythe County, 1952-58, before coming to Pulaski. He pastored the Pulaski church from 1958 until his retirement in June 1982.

He also served as a member of the Sunday School Board of the Virginia Conference Pentecostal Holiness Church. He earned his THB Degree from Holmes Theological Seminary, Greenville, S.C, A carpenter by trade, he worked at Radford Army Ammunition Plant when it was built in the early years of World War II.

He also helped build several churches and parsonages, including, improvements at the Pulaski church and the parsonage on Windsor Avenue.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Helen Lelia Jackson Wood; one daughter, Mrs. Joe "Doris" Franklin, Ft. Myers, Fla; three sisters, Mrs. Leonard (Kathleen) LaFon, Organ Cave, W.. Va., Mrs. Paul (Pauline) Bowden, Zephyrhills, Fla., and the Rev. Mrs. John D. (Geraleen) Talmage, Krugersdorp, South Africa; three brothers, the Rev. C.E. Wood, Dublin, the Rev. Roy W. Wood, Franklin Springs, Ga., and Sanford E. Wood, Dayton, Ohio, and three grandchildren and one step-grandson.

The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. from First Pentecostal Holiness Church. Pulaski, with the Rev. C. E. Wood, the Rev. D. Ray Humphries, the Rev. Eddie Wood, the Rev. R.G. Quesenberry and the Rev. C.G. Teasdale officiating. Burial will follow in the Virginia Conference, PH Church, Cemetery, Dublin. Visiting will be any time Wednesday with the family receiving friends from 7 to 9 p.m. at Bower Funeral Home, Dublin. The body will be taken to the church at 11 a.m. Thursday to lie in state until the service. Bower Funeral Home, Dublin, is in charge of arrangements.
