Robert H Jordan was a founding father of many churches in North Carolina and Georgia. Before settling in Talking Rock, he was a Baptist circuit rider . Robert was murdered by union soldiers who believed he was sympathetic with the Confederacy. His sons, Ben Franklin and Robert, Jr were in the Confederacy and under orders of the Governor Joe Brown were in what was called the home guards. Others called them gangs. Their mission was to capture or kill union soldiers who stole their food and raped the wives of Confederate soldiers. Both brothers were indicted for murder but found not guilty. When the trial was over, both brothers left the area never to return. We have found that Robert went to Texas, married, and had a daughter. He is buried in Texas. Someone told that Ben went to Florida and was killed in a barroom fight in 1865; the family let believe it, but they believed he went to Texas.

When Robert's estate was settled.......his home and land were sold at public auction in 1869 or 70 to settle a court order that pay court costs for their trials. I have not read the court records, but my cousin has. Half of the money went for legal expenses and the rest went to his wife, Susanah Thomas Jordan and his living children. Robert Jr's share also went to the sheriff who represented the court. Ben's share went to his mother and siblings.

Robert and Susanah had three sons who were lawyers. Two of them were Attorney Generals for Arkansas. The third one was a partner with his brother but he died suddenly at a young age.
