Mildred June Ruggles Humphries passed away on November 2, 2012, at the age of 94. Visitation will be held 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 4, 2012 at Osborn Funeral Home. Services to celebrate her life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, November 5th, in the chapel of Osborn Funeral Home with Jerry Hodge, minister of the University Church of Christ officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Park Cemetery, St. Vincent Avenue. June was born on May 27, 1918 to William Jennings Bryan Ruggles and Mattie Pearl Churchwell Ruggles in Shover Springs, AR. She was the oldest of six children. She spent most of her childhood in El Dorado, AR, but moved back to Shover Springs with her family to the Ruggles Farm (est. 1910). She met her life partner, Truman Crowell Humphries, at Shover Springs church and they were married on October 31, 1939. June and Truman moved to Shreveport in 1940 and they have resided in Shreveport for 73 years. They are longtime members of Creswell Church of Christ and University Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bryan and Mattie Ruggles; her sister, Lucille Ruggles; two brothers, Jack Ruggles and Billy Ruggles; one grandson, Gary McGregor Hall. June is survived by her husband of 73 years, Truman Humphries; four daughters, Barbara Tatum of Shreveport, Dianne Shearer and husband, Billy of Houston, TX, Judy Rives and husband, Billy of Ridgeland, MS, and Peggy Norton and husband, Fred of Roswell, GA; nine grandchildren, John Tatum II and wife, Lee Ann of Dallas, TX, Dr. Karen Tatum Le Vous and husband, John of Norfolk, VA, Dr. Bill Rives, II of Ridgeland, MS, Mike Rives and wife, Shannon of Madison, MS, Scott Rives and wife, Lyndi of Ridgeland, MS, Richard Rives and wife, Angela of Ridgeland, MS, Fred Norton, Jr. of Marietta, GA, Margaret Norton Dickins and husband, Daron of Sulphur Springs, TX, and Jim Norton of Athens, GA; and twelve wonderful great-grandchildren. June, a gracious southern lady, loved life and was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She spent many happy years volunteering at school, girl scouts, tap and ballet, church and charity organizations. One of her greatest joys was the simple and majestic beauty of nature, the sunset, a wild flower, a bird singing, flowering trees and God's beautiful animals. Her deeds of generous kindness, her sympathy for others, her strength of character and her strong faith and trust in the Lord will remain with all who knew her. Pallbearers will be her seven grandsons, John Tatum, Dr. Bill Rives, Mike Rives, Scott Rives, Ricky Rives, Fred Norton, Jim Norton and posthumous honorary pallbearer, Gary McGregor Hall. The family requests memorials be made to the University Church of Christ, Girl Scouts of America or the American Heart Association.
