The Rev. Erwin Clyde "E.C." or "Goose" Gosnell, of Greeneville, went home to be with Jesus at 1:15 p.m. Thursday at the age of 84.

He was a Greene County native and lived in Jonesborough for 41 years before returning to Greeneville in 2006. He was a son of the late Martha Tweed Gosnell and the late Major Erwin Gosnell.

He was a retired Baptist preacher of the Greeneville and Jonesborough area. He was a member of Overlook Baptist Church in Greeneville.

Rev. Gosnell served his U.S. Army career in Fort Ord, Ga., in Korea at the 38th Parallel, and in Okinawa, Japan, Fort Oglethorpe, Ga., and Fort Lee, Va.

Rev. Gosnell will be sadly missed but happily remembered for his fine example of living for our Lord Jesus Christ and telling all those around him about the peace he found in his steadfast faith.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Wilma Jean Parker Gosnell; one son: Ed Gosnell and wife, Lisa, of Jonesville, S.C.; one daughter: Jodi Ray of Kingsport; two granddaughters: Jessica Glauer and Molly Grace Ray, both of Kingsport; one grandson: Zackery Seaton of Limestone; a brother-in-law: Bob Parker of Kingsport; his sisters-in-law: Judy Bacon of Johnson City and Mary Austin and husband, Warren, of Loxahatchee, Fla.; a host of nieces and nephews; and his special friends and brothers-in-Christ: Don Foulks and Wayland Fillers.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Trudy Gosnell Seaton, a granddaughter, Sarah Seaton, seven brothers, and five sisters.

Funeral services for the Rev. Gosnell will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Afton Chapel of Jeffers Funeral & Cremation Service. The Rev. Mike Hensley and the Rev. Dwayne Steele will officiate.

Special music will be provided by Gina Hubbard.

The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. prior to the service.

Interment will be in River Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Bryan Bacon, Edward Haney, Charles Gosnell, Jimmy Gosnell, Clayton Gosnell, Roger Tweed, Steve and David Gosnell, and Don Foulks.

The family would like to thank Caris Health Care, Dr. James Oakely, Dr. Mandeep Bakshi, and Dr. David Jones and a very special nurse, Tricia Hamby. A special thanks to Edward and Alice Haney.
