Betty Marguerite Raymond, 85, passed away on Dec. 25, 2010, at the Coos County Nursing Hospital in West Stewartstown NH after a brief illness. She was born in Canaan VT, on Oct. 2, 1925, the youngest daughter of the late Edwin and Ruth (Tillotson) Dwinell.

Betty was a graduate of Canaan High School class of 1943. She attended the Lyndon Normal School and received her Bachelor of Science degree in education in 1946. Further education included extension courses from the University of Delaware. Throughout her life, Betty taught in various elementary schools in Vermont, Delaware, and New Hampshire. She started her teaching career in Vermont, then moved to Colebrook, and then Delaware. While living in Rehoboth Beach DE, she enjoyed flounder fishing in the bay, surf fishing, and crabbing at the beach.

Betty and her husband Emery Raymond owned and operated Ray's Store in Canaan VT (Bessie's Diner) from 1955-58. She also spent many years living on Back Lake in Pittsburg NH, where she enjoyed partridge hunting, fly fishing, and snowmobiling. From 1975-90, Betty was employed by the Stewartstown schools as a Chapter I remedial reading teacher, servicing students at the West Side School, the Hollow Elementary School, and St. Albert's Parochial School.

She was a communicant at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Canaan, where she served as junior warden and was a member of the altar guild.

Family members include her nieces Beverly Dorman and husband Wayne of Pittsburg NH, Betty Snyder and husband Lou of Rutland VT, Doris Kristen and husband Dale of North Haverhill NH, and Ruth Anne Kelsea of Pembroke NH; nephew Bruce Gadwah of Fairbanks AK; and many grandnieces, grandnephews, and friends. She will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends.

Betty was predeceased by her husband Emery Raymond and her sisters Elmerline Vancore and Katherine Gadwah.
