Obituary - Cambridge Clarion November 28, 1919

Jeanette Meusey was born near Syracuse, New York, March 6, 1833 and died at the home of her son, Henry Arthaud, near Cambridge, Nebraska on November 15, 1919, being aged 86 years, 8 months and 11 days.

She was united in marriage to Anthony Piquet in 1850. To this union eight children were born, two having preceded her to the world beyond.

She, with her husband, family and parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Meusey, came to Debuque County, Iowa, in 1853, arriving by ferry down the Mississippi River. While living in Iowa, her husband died, leaving her with the care of a large family of small children.

In 1873 she was united in marriage to August Arthaud, who preceded her to the grave about a year and a half. To this union three children were born.

She came with her husband and family to Cambridge in 1882, enduring the privations of early pioneer life in this state. In fact she saw the three states in which she lived in the early stages of their development. She lived during four great wars in which the United States was involved, and remembered facts about all of them. She took a keen interest in the last great war and many were her prayers that it should be ended in justice and right.

She was a very charitable woman, being ever ready to lend a helping hand in caring for the sick and needy. The weather was never too severe, distance too far, or her own work too pressing for her to answer the call of anyone in distress often taking the place of doctor or nurse in the early days, when it was impossible to obtain either.

She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Caroline Centlivre of Sioux City, Iowa, nine children and a large number of grandchildren, who will miss her kind face and sincere advice.

Funeral services were held from St. John's church on Tuesday, November 18, conducted by Father Downey, and burial took place in the Cambridge Catholic cemetery.
