Milo "Jack" Owens, age 86 of Manistee, died peacefully as if his passing was choreographed in heaven Saturday night, Sept. 3, 2011, at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born March 3, 1925 in Detroit, son of the late Ray and Ruth (Litchard) Owens. He was a graduate of Plymouth High School the Class of 1942. Milo married Rosemary T. Kinsler on February 26, 1943 in Detroit. They enjoyed over sixty eight years of marriage together before Rosemary's death this year, on Friday, Aug. 19, 2011. Jack served in the United States Army with the Military Police during World War II, from May 11, 1943 until Oct. 19, 1945. He was a machinist and along with his brother in-law Donald Kinsler owned and operated their own machine shop in Detroit. Rosemary, Jack and their family moved to Manistee in 1962. Jack was then employed as a machinist at Michigan Tool Company in Manistee and later was a real estate agent with Clement Realty Company also of Manistee. Jack enjoyed playing cards with his family and friends, especially playing euchre and pinochle. He was a member of the Pere Marquette Classic Car Club and all of his life had a great love for working on and showing classic cars. He was a member of the Catholic Community of Manistee.
Jack is survived by his children and their spouses: Thomas and Robin Owens of Manistee, Robert and Mary Jane Owens of Perrysburg, Ohio, James and Pamela Owens of Grand Rapids, Charles and Kimberley Owens, Ruth and Dennis Simoneau, William and Mary Owens and Timothy and Candace Owens and his daughter in-law, Virginia Owens all of Manistee; 23 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law: Billodean Owens and Gladys Kinsler. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive her.
In addition to his parents and his wife Rosemary, he was preceded in death by two sons: John D. and Lawrence J. Owens and by his two brothers, Laurel and Allen Owens and by his brother in-law and former partner Donald Kinsler.
The family will be at the funeral home on Wednesday Sept. 7, 2011 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. to receive friends. An evening Vigil Service will be held Wednesday evening at 8 p.m. at the Herbert Funeral Home in Manistee, where friends may begin calling at the funeral home on Wednesday afternoon after 2 p.m.
Mass from The Order of Christian Funerals will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 8, 2011 at Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Manistee with Reverend John McCracken Celebrant. The family will be at the church two hours prior to the funeral Mass to receive friends. Cremation will follow and final interment will take place at a later date at Mt. Carmel Cemetery also in Manistee.
