James "Jim" Hinkle Sr., 82, of Greeneville, died Saturday at Laughlin Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Hinkle was retired from Greeneville Ready Mix and was a veteran of World War II.

He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife: Roby Bowman Hinkle; a son and daughter-in-law: James Alfred Hinkle Jr., and his wife, Virginia Hinkle; four granddaughters and three special grandsons-in-law: Anita Hinkle, Ruth and Shane Harrison, Jamie and Chuck Rose, and Melissa and Guy Tweed; a stepgranddaughter and special stepgrandson-in-law: Teresa and Shawn Broyles; great-grandchildren: Josh Hinkle, D.J. Batts, Shane Harrison, Nathan Harrison, Dalton Brotherton, and Caitely Rose; a sister: Mary Carter of Bluefield, W. Va.; several nieces and nephews; and special friends: Frank Wykle, Jabo Fannon, and Kirk Bowman.

He was a son of the late Rufus and Julia Hinkle and was preceded in death by five brothers: Richel Hinkle, Clyde Hinkle, Albert Hinkle, Howard Hinkle, and Lloyd Hinkle; and three sisters: Kate Scott, Dorothy Hurst, and Martha Thomas.

The family received friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Jeffers Mortuary.

The funeral service will be held at 2 o'clock this afternoon in the mortuary chapel with interment in River Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Wayland Fillers and Gordon Miller will officiate.

The members of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Bulls Gap Rader McCravey Post #9683, will be active pallbearers and will conduct a military graveside service.

Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Broyles, Guy Broyles Jr., Kirk Bowman, Stanley Bowman, Greg Bowman, Keith Bowman, Mike Bowman, and Johnny Bowman.
