C. Everett Kelch, 83, a longtime resident of Whitefish, passed away at North Valley Hospital Thursday morning, Feb. 8, 2001, after a short illness with cancer.He was born Aug. 18, 1912, at Sidney, the son of Delaskie and Alice Kelch. In 1927, he moved to the Flathead and resided in the Whitefish area other than a short period when he lived in Seattle
During World War II.In 1936, he married Edna Dukleth and from this union they had six children. He farmed and logged in the Bissell community while raising his family.He worked for Woods & Dempsey; Montana State Forestry Department; American Timber;and several other companies while living in the Bissell community.He and his wife separated in 1969 at which time he moved into Whitefish.After a serious logging accident in 1966, and radical cancer surgery in 1969, he started writing poetry which he had published. He was a local celebrity bringing laughter to many with his homespun style. He entertained many children at local schools and others at many functions.He was a 4-H leader; school board trustee; grange member;and a member of the Moose Lodge in Whitefish. He was a charter member of the Art and Craft Club of the Flathead and enjoyed making crafts from wood which he sold at the Farmers' Market.In 1972, he married Remina"Tiny" Shira and they have been constant companions since.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; one brother; and a son.He is survived by his wife Remi-na Kelch; daughters, Ellen and Dave Creighton of Kalispell with five children. 16 grandchildren.and two great-grandchildren.
Sherri and Gerald Madsen of Kalispell, with two children and one grandchild; sons, Dean and Evelyn Kelch of Whitefish, with four children and five grandchildren, Lloyd and Marcia Kelch of Kalispell, with three children and seven grandchildren, and Bob Kelch with four children and four grandchildren; numerous nieces,nephews, and other family members.Memorial services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Whitefish with the Rev.David Kauffman and the Rev.Gene Speer officiating. He was cremated with graveside services to be held at a later date.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in his name to Wings of Hospice,1280 Burns Way, Kalispell.Arrangements are under the direction of the Austin Funeral Home in Whitefish. (The Daily Inter Lake ,Feb,2001)
