Age 82, beloved husband of Donna M. (nee Miller); dear father of Richard E. (Mary), Mark A. (Terri) and Brian E. (Laurie) Dentinger; dear grandfather of Richard P. (Mary Beth), Christopher, Catherine, Rachel, John, Allison and Erika; great-grandfather of Richard C. and Georgia E. Dentinger; dear brother of Bernadette (Jim) Pollina, James (Sally) and the late George Dentinger. The family will be present on Thursday from 7-9 PM and Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the (Amherst Chapel) AMIGONE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 5200 Sheridan Dr. (at Hopkins Rd.). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:00 AM from St. Pius X Church, 1700 North French Road in Getzville. Friends invited. All are asked to assemble at the church. Mr. Dentinger was retired from the Amherst Police Department and a member of the Getzville Fire Company, A.J. Jurek Post #1672 American Legion, the W.A.R.P. and the Korean War Veterans Association. Obituary
Richard J. Dentinger, of Amherst, a retired Amherst police detective, died Wednesday in Hospice Buffalo, Cheektowaga, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's disease. He was 82.

Born in Buffalo, eldest of four children, he attended Blessed Trinity Elementary Schooland graduated from Burgard Vocational High School in 1948.

Mr. Dentinger worked at Westinghouse before he was drafted into the Army during the Korean War and served in combat in Korea in 1952-53. Returning home, he worked at Halls Bakery and was a member of the Teamsters.

He joined the Amherst Police Department and moved to Amherst in 1963. He was honored as Policeman of the Year by the Amherst Bee in 1972. He retired in 1991 as a detective sergeant and worked part-time for six more years as an officer in the Town Court.

He also served as a security guard for Buffalo Bills Coach Marv Levy on game days.

He joined the Getzville Volunteer Fire Company in 1968, held many offices and was president of the Exempt Association. He was a member of A.J. Jurek Post 1672, American Legion, and the Korean War Veterans Association.

In retirement, he enjoyed vegetable gardening, volunteering at the fire company and restoring a 1968 Mustang.

Surviving are his wife of 61 years, the former Donna Miller; three sons, Rick, Mark and Brian; a brother, James; and a sister, Bernadette Pollina.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Pius X Catholic Church, 1700 North French Road, Getzville.
