Charles Ray Gwin, 81, of Staunton died Thursday Aug. 25, 2005 at his home. He was born Nov. 15, 1923, in Highland County, a son of the late William Renick and Rowena Hupman Gwin. Earlier in life Mr. Gwin worked as a logger and was enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Clarence Peter Gwin and William Rosser Gwin; and a sister, Rebecca Gwin Wilfong. He is survived by two sisters, Madeline Gwin Lamb of Staunton, and Catherine Gwin Huffer of Mount Solon; four nephews and three nieces. A graveside service was conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 27 at Head Waters Cemetery. There was no formal visitation or public viewing.
