James worked for the Rock Island Railroad in Horton, KS. "James Hiatt was born October 9, 1862 in Gasconade Co., Illinois, (paper's typo- should read Missouri) his parents being Clayton and Priscilla Noah of Altamont, Mo. (paper's typo- the woman listed as his mother is actually his wife. Altamont is where his wife was living at the time of his marriage to her.) In early life he was a member of the Lutheran Church, but since 1914 held his membership in the First Baptist Church of Horton. He had been a member of the Horton Odd Fellows lodge for many years. He was the father of 14 children, 13 of whom survive- three daughters and ten sons. They are: Mrs. F. E. Kelley and Mrs. H. B. Clark of Kalamazoo, Michigan; and Mrs. Ole Landers of Kittitas, Washington; John, Roy, Clayton, and Raymond all of Kalamazoo, Michigan; Claude Hiatt who lives in Utah; Dewey Hiatt, Trenton, Missouri; Harry Hiatt, Niles, Michigan; 1st Lieutenant William Hiatt, Ord. Dept., Washington, D. C.; Leonard Hiatt, Detroit, Michigan; and Marion Hiatt of Horton.
