Highland Recorder October 28, 1904

Mr. Gideon Propst has gone to Staunton to haul goods for the merchants at McDowell.

January 29, 1909

We learn from a private, reliable source that Messrs. Henry and Gideon Propst, brothers, who live in the Seldom Seen community, made 120 pounds of maple sugar during this month. This is very unusual. We have heard of a few farmers who opened their sugar trees last week, finding it impossible to desist in the presence of such warm weather. The absence of frost, however, rendered the time inauspicious, and no results are reported.

March 12, 1909

Messrs. Henry and Gideon Propst have made 500 pounds of maple sugar and 35 gallons of molasses. They have an evaporator.

February 27, 1931

Mr. Gideon Propst has made quite a lot of maple syrup. Last week he made 50 gallons. Wonder if any one can beat that?
