A graveside service for Bernard Wayne Reed, 88, of Pond Creek, will be 2 p.m. today in Pond Creek Cemetery. Military rites by U.S. Air Force Honor Guard and Oklahoma Highway Patrol Honor Guard. The Rev. Steve Litterell will officiate. Arrangements are by Wilson Funeral Home, Pond Creek.


He was born Feb. 11, 1920, near Medford to M.M. and Flossie Sayre Reed and died Monday, Nov. 17, 2008, at St. Mary's Hospital.


He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1939, and enlisted in the Army Air Force in Nov. 1940. He was a P-38 Crew Chief serving in the Algerian-French Morroccan, Tunisian-Sicilian, Naples-Foggia, Rome-Arno, South of France and Air Offensive Europe campaigns. After World War II he moved to Detroit for a few years before returning to Oklahoma. He graduated from Oklahoma Highway Patrol School in 1949. He served in both the Lawton and Enid districts and retired after 20 years in 1969. He owned and raced American Quarter horses. He was a member of Kingfisher Masonic Lodge 52, Akdar Shriners, Tulsa, and VFW.


Surviving are one son, two daughters, and seven grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by one son, two brothers and one sister.


Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Pond Creek Cemetery Association.
