Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend, Thomas V. Nelson, 81, passed away October 31, 2012 in Apple Valley, California. He was born October 29, 1931 in Steger, Illinois to Mattie and Enos Nelson.
Tom served in the Korean Conflict with the United States Army. He was a man of many talents and skills; working for the railroad and at Camp Irwin, owning two gas stations and then becoming a business owner renting heavy equipment, and retiring from this business.
Tom was very involved in his community. He was a member of the Lion's Club, receiving the Lion's Club Humanitarian Award in 2012. He served on the Mountain View Memorial Park Cemetery board for over 20 years. Fraternally, he was a member of the Barstow-Boron F&AM #682 Lodge, the San Bernardino Scottish Rite Temple and Al Malaikah Shrine Temple in Los Angeles.
He is survived by his wife Nancy, brother Enos, children Kris, Tom, Mark, Tony, Gene, Jeff, and Barbara, and their family members, which includes 19 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by many extended family members and friends. Tom was preceded in death by his son Steven, sister Roberta and his parents.
Services for Tom will be on Tuesday, November 6, 2012. Visitation will be at 9 a.m. and funeral service at 10 a.m. at Mead Mortuary. Burial will follow at Mountain View Memorial Park, Barstow.
