DANVERS (PNS) – Ransom Lee Schertz, 69, prominent retired Danvers farmer and businessman, died of 4:36 a. m. Thursday at his home here. He had been ill two and a half years.

He was taken to the Otto and Argo Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. Saturday at the funeral home and at 2:30 p. m. at the Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Dean R. DeVeny will officiate. Burial will be in Park Lawn Cemetery.

Mr. Schertz was born Nov. 7, 1881 near Danvers, the son of John B. and Mary Stuckey Schertz. He married Caroline Deal Nov. 8, 1911.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Marion, and Frank, both of Danvers; four daughters, Mrs. Mary Ellen Morse, Odell, Mrs. Ada Louise Birckelbaw Salem, Mich., Mrs. Alice Strubhar, McLean, and Mrs. Carolyn Kaufman, Route 4, Bloomington; one brother, Daniel Schertz, and one sister, Mrs. Walter Parks, both of Danvers; and eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister.

He was a member of Danvers Presbyterian Church and an elder of the church. Prior to his illness he had been president of the elevator company and president of the Danvers school board. At the time of his death he was director of the soil conservation program in the Danvers vicinity.
