Obituary for Mattie (Stephens) Dusenbery:
Death of well-known women unexpected, although she had been ill.
Mrs. W.L. Dusenberry died at her home at 621 E. Second street yesterday evening at 8:30. Although Mrs. Dusenberry had been quite ill for about a week and had been worse yesterday, it was not realized that death might be expected, untill about twenty minutes before her death. She had been suffering from blood poisoning caused by an abacess in her side. Several times recently she had been slightly indisposed but her late illness was more serious than others. Yesterday morning she expressed the hope that she would be about us in a short time.
For the last six years Mr. and Mrs. Dusenberry and son Laired, had made their home in Washington, coming here from Keota. They were wellknown to many Washington people and Mrs. Dusenberry , while reserved and not inclined to make friends easily, was popular amoung a goodly company of local people. She was a member of the Methodist church here, although in her youth she had been connected with the Christian church at Richland where she was born May 11, 1882. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.W. Stephens of that place. Her father is still living at Richland. She was married at Keota to W.L. Dusenberry on August 29, 1900, and the family came to Washington six years ago.
Surviving Mrs. Dusenberry are her husband and son Laired, eleven years of age, and the following brothers and sisters: Mel Stephens of Fairfield; Mrs. Anson Woodford of Richland; Mrs. Ernest Fulton of Keota; Mrs. C.W. Dayton of Osklalossa; Milo Stephens of Wellman. All of the brothers and sisters are here today in response to word sent them of their sister's death.
The funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at three o'clock at the Miller chapel.
