Shirley Reese Justus, 83, went peacefully to be with her Lord on Thursday, November 1, 2012 at a local care center.

Shirley was born on October 25, 1929 in Portland, Oregon, to her parents Hartley and Lenna Bybee Reese. She worked at Sears for many years and Hewlett Packard. She still kept in touch with her special co-workers and friends, having luncheons together.

Her only brother, Ronald Reese, preceded her in death in September of 2012 at the age of 92.

She married Garth Howard, and they had two children: a son, Pat Howard, who preceded her in death in 2005, and daughter, Sandra (Sam) Howard Ballenger, of Yelm, WA.

She married Don Justus, and was blessed with a son, Kevin, and two wonderful stepchildren, Steve Justus and Karan Justus Anton. They began a new family called the "Woo Family", nicknames for each other being Dr. Woo and Mrs. Woo. The tradition still carries on.

Don was a rancher and when he told everyone about the branding round up, they would ask if Shirley was cooking, and they would be there for sure. She prepared many great meals for all the hard working cowboys.

Shirley was truly a marvelous cook and won many blue ribbons for her culinary arts at the fair. Everyone relished in having her delicious cheesecake for their birthday or holiday time. We will never forget her wonderful talent of cooking. Even the patrons of the Stage Coach Restaurant were honored to have her famous cheesecakes. She will be sharing her recipes in Heaven as we always thought it was food for the angels.

At Don's Harvard University Reunion at Martha's Vineyard she met a famous chef and she sent him one of her delectable cheesecakes by special delivery, frozen to arrive just right to sample.

She was a beautiful and very stylish woman with such a flair for color in her paintings, as well as in her attire. Everyone wondered what lovely outfit we would see her in next.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Don Justus; brother, Ron; her son, Pat Howard; and grandson, Ian Ballenger.

She is survived by her daughter, Sandra (Sam) Ballenger; granddaughter, Britt and her husband, great-granddaughter, Harley, her late grandson Ian's wife, Kathy Ballenger, great-granddaughter, Anna Marie Ballenger; sons: Kevin (Sharon) Justus, of Sweet, and Steve (Valerie) Justus; daughter, Karan Justus Anton (Chris), of Boise; grandsons: Aaron, CJ and Cooper; niece, Michelle "Missy" Reese; cousin, Velma Val House (Larry), and Shirley's extended family of "sister" Val.

The family would like to express their loving gratitude to Michelle Traenkner, Valerie Grimes Justus, Missy Reese, and her many care givers at Willow Park Assisted Living and Good Samaritan. May God bless all of you in a special way for all your tender loving care.

In spite of her ill health, her loving smile will remain with all of us forever.

At Shirley's request, we will celebrate her life with a memorial party for family and friends at 6:30 pm on Friday, November 16, 2012 at The Club at Spur Wing, 6800 N. Spur Wing Way Meridian.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
