Sarah Stephens Smith, 95, died October 12, 2005, at Martha Franks Baptist Retirement Center. Funeral services were held on October 15, 2005, at First Baptist Church in Laurens, Dr. Bev T. Kennedy Jr., Dr. Russell Dean and Dr. Bob Deaton officiating. The Kennedy Mortuary of Laurens was in charge of final arrangements.

Sarah was born in Moore, South Carolinia, to the late James Robert and Una Huskey Stephens. She was a graduate of Asheville Women's College and Southern Baptist Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky; she was a retired teacher and was an active member of Baptist churches in Georgia and South Carolina.

Mrs. Smith was the widow of the late Charles Owen Smith, Sr. She was predeceased by two sons, Jack C. Smith Sr. and Charles O. Smith Jr.; two brothers, Albert and James Stephens; three sisters, Alma S. Hudson, Ruth S. Workman, and Madge S. Wofford; and a grandchild, Jebb M. Smith.

Surviving family members included a daughter-in-law, eight grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. Mrs. Smith was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
