SCARLET FEVER CLAIMS LIFE OF MARENGO YOUTH

Riley School Closed by Epidemic; Six in Family Have Disease

Wilbur Ackman, 9, son of Mrs. and Mrs. Will Ackman, residing near Marengo, died Sunday night of scarlet fever after an illness of a day and one-half.

Five other boys of the Ackman family are ill with the disease, and three other children of the family have been exposed. The Riley School, south of Marengo, where the younger children attended school, has been closed by health authorities because of the epidemic.

Verda, the oldest daughter of the Ackman family and a student at the Marengo Community High School, is critically ill with the disease but was reported as slightly improving. A trained nurse from Chicago is assisting in the care of the children.

Funeral services for Wilbur Ackman were held Monday afternoon and the body was interred in the Hampshire Cemetery.
