Dies; Rites Incomplete
Mrs. Mary Leila Castleman, 99, died at the home of her son, C. H. Castleman, 2513 Grandview ave., last night fter an illness of seven months.
Funeral services will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Ellis & Kidd funeral home. Arrangements were incomplete last night.
Mrs. Castleman inherited the characteristics of a long living family. Her father, William Mac Page, bookkeeper for the state penitentiary before the War Between the States, died at the age of 91, aA brother died at 91. Her grandfather John Page, Methodist minister, died at 94.
Mrs. Castleman was born in West Tennessee but move to Nashville with her parents when she was six years old. She spent the rest of her live in and around Nashville.
She graduated from the old Ward seminary when it was situated on Eighth ave., N.
The Page family lived on Demonbreun at near Sixteenth ave., S. when the Union soldiers took Nashville. Relatives last night said that Mrs. Castleman remembered the soldiers camping all about the home during the occupation.
Her husband, C. N. Castleman, a Williamson county farmer, died in 1901.
Mrs. Castleman was the mother of seven children, four of them surviving.
The survivors are Mrs. J. H. McMaon of San Francisco, C. H. Castleman, J. E. Castleman of Glenrose, Texas, and H. B. Castleman of Sandusky, Ohio.
She is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 15 great-great grandchildren, some of whom live in South America.
