Joseph Francis "Joe" Parrish, age 72, of Palatka, Florida, passed away Saturday September 28, 2013 after a valiant battle against kidney and heart disease.
The funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 5, 2013 at Saint John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Interlachen with Father Bob Napier officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill West Cemetery in Palatka. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Friday, October 4, 2013 at Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home in Palatka.
He was born in Pensacola, Florida on March 22, 1941, graduated from J. M. Tate High School and continued on to receive his mechanical engineering degree from Auburn University (War Eagle). He worked as the plant engineer for Georgia-Pacific from which he retired in 2001. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and working in his shop. He was also actively involved in his granddaughter's activities. He was married to Mildred "Millie" Erlene Summerlin on July 29, 1961. She preceded him in death on June 29, 2003. They were married forty-two years.
He is survived by his daughter, Tricia Renee Parrish of Palatka; granddaughter, Alayna Alene Parrish of Palatka; sister, Camelia Clapp of Choctaw, Fl.; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Deanne Parrish of Grand Junction, CO; nephew, Douglas Clapp (Dena) of Yorkville, GA.; nephew, Daniel Clapp (Wanda) of Baker, FL.; niece, Tracey McKinley (Alan) of Graham, WA.; niece, Donna Hill (Thomas) of Jacksonville, FL; and other family and friends.
