Donald served as a Staff Sergeant & Radio Operator on B-17G #43-38699, 850th Bomber Squadron, 490th Bomber Group, 8th Air Force, U.S. Army during World War II.

He resided in Erie County, New York prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on February 13, 1943 in Buffalo, New York. He was noted as being employed in the building of aircraft and also as Single, without dependents.

Donald was "Killed In Action" when his B-17 suffered a mid-air collision with B-17G #43-38167 over France and crashed during the war.

Two civilians that were at the crash site were also killed.

He was awarded a Purple Heart.
