Chico Weekly Chronicle-Record, Saturday, October 15, 1892, pg 1 col 4: Killed By a Train. The mangled remains of a man were found Friday morning in the cut just north of Brewery creek railroad bridge, says the Red Bluff Sentinal, which proved to be all that was left of Robert L. Drain [sic], who, it is surmised lay down on the track last night in a bewildered, maudlin condition and was run over by one, and possibly four trains.

The remains were taken to Fickert's undertaking rooms and were recognized by articles in the pockets of his clothes and by papers on his person. He came to town Thursday and indulged rather freely in intoxicants and it is supposed he became mentally deranged and wandered up the track and probably lay down to rest and sleep.

Dr. West, the County Coroner, held an inquest this afternoon and the jury rendered a verdict in accordance with the facts as above stated.

The deceased was born in Maryland and emigrated to Wisconsin. He volunteered and joined the Union Army and served through the Civil War. He belonged to the Wisconsin artillery company, and was a member of the Grand Army Post in that State. He was a brother of J.F. Drain and resided on his farm a mile south of town. The funeral took place Sunday.
