James Thomas (J.T.) Cotner, 91, of Chaffee passed away November 2, 2012 at the Chaffee Nursing Center in Chaffee, MO.
He was born April 15, 1921, to Guy H. and Carrie Sides Cotner in Pocahontas, MO. The family moved to Cape Girardeau, Mo when he was 10yrs old and then to Chaffee, MO in 1948.
J.T. married Arlene Mae Jones, Feb. 20, 1942 at the Maple Ave. Methodist Church in Cape Girardeau and she preceded him in death on April 13, 2009.
He was a 1938 graduate of Central High School in Cape Girardeau, MO. He was an avid sports fan, playing at Central High School and also several area baseball teams. In 1994 he was inducted into the SEMO Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame in Sikeston. He coached Little League and Babe Ruth teams in Chaffee as well.
He retired in 1989 having worked for 49yrs as a mechanic for Ely-Walker in Illmo and Murphsboro, IL, Bukstein Mfg Co., Harts Schaffner and Marx and Thorngate Ltd. in Chaffee.
J.T. was a member of the Chaffee American Legion Post 0389; served in the Army Air Corps from 1942-1946 and was an active member of the Chaffee UMC where he served on the nominating committee.
Survivors include two sons, Lynn (Jan) Cotner of Jackson, MO, Larry Cotner of Miami, FL; two granddaughters, Alysha (Greg) Sauer of Festus, MO, Andrea Cotner of Jackson, MO; seven great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren and two step sisters.
Friends may call Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee after 4PM on Monday November 5, 2012.
Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, November 6, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church in Chaffee at 10AM with Rev. Richard Combs officiating assisted by Rev. Gwenell Streeter.
Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau, MO.
