Martha B. Beedle, 95, formerly of Shippensburg, died Wednesday, July 4, 2007 at the home of her daughter in Greencastle.

Born July 26, 1911 in Shippensburg, she was the daughter of the late Florence Goodhart Meredith and Josep Brown. She was the step-daughter of the late Berk Meredith.

She is survived by one son, Darvin E. "Chiip" Beedle, II, Orlando, Fla.; one daughter, Twila Stahl-Davis and husband Bert Davis, Greencastle; six grandchildren, Nicole Beedle, Orlando, Fla., Brian Beedle, Los Angeles, Calif., Dustin Stahl, Fairbanks, Alaska, Tiffany Stahl, Nashville, Tenn., Bert Davis, Jr., Martinsburg, W.V., and Nick Davis, Clarksville, Tenn.; three great-gradnchildren, and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is also survived by five special friends, Jo Lee Brindle, Diane Colley, Ellen Burkholder, and Anna Mae Koontz, all of Greencastle, and Holly Hoffeditz, St. Thomas. She was preceded in death by one brother, Berk Meredith, Jr.

Martha taught in the Shippensburg Area School District as a elementary remedial reading teacher and finished her career in 1974 as a math teacher at the former Shippensburg Junior High School. Earlier in her life she taught in the North Chicago School District and from 1934 to 1944 she taught first grade at the Lab School in the Shippensburg School District.

She was a 1929 graduate of Shippensburg High School, received her B.S. in Education for Shippensburg State Teachers College in 1933, and her M.S. in Education from Columbia University in 1944.

She was a lifelong member of the Memorial Lutheran Church, Pennsylvania State Education Association-Retired, Fleet Reserve Ladies Auxiliary Unit #106, and the Ladies Auxiliary of Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post #223 and Durff-Kuhn VFW Post #6168. Martha was Past Worthy Matron of First Court Chapter #470 Order of Eastern Star, Past Royal Matron of Falling Spring Court #139 Order of Amaranth, and Past Worthy High Priestess of Samaria Shrine #43 Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem.

Martha and her husband Darvin E. Beedle owned and operated Beedle's Flowers in Shippensburg for many years. Mr. Beedle died January 1, 1990. They were married August 18, 1945 in the Chapel at Great Lakes Naval Training Center, Ill.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday, July 9 at 10:00 a.m. in the Memorial Lutheran Church, Shippensburg. The Rev. Dr. Brenda J. Kiser and Rev. William DeHass will officiate. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery. Viewing will be Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Fogelsanger-Bricker funeral Home, Inc., Shippensburg, and one hour prior to services. Order of the Amaranth services will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. and Order of Eastern Star services will be conducted at 7:45 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
