Born Sunday, March 19, 1922, in Cosytown, Pa., he was the son of the late Clarence H. (Teddy) Koontz and the late Cornelia (Nealy) Hykes Koontz.
He attended White Pine School in Cosytown.
He retired from Jamison Door Co.
Paul was a founding member of Maugansville Bible Brethren Church, where he served for many years as deacon, deacon emeritus and a choir member.
He served his country honorably during World War II in both Africa and Italy.
He is known for his talented woodworking skills.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Mae F. (Kendall) Koontz; daughter, Bonnie M. (Koontz) Gordon, widow of Dale L. Gordon; sons, Ronald D. Koontz and wife, Nancy L. Rudolph, and P. Dennis Koontz and wife, F. Jean Meyers; brothers, Robert Koontz and Johnny C. Koontz and wife, Anna Jean; grandchildren, Michael D. Koontz, Steven L. Koontz, Bryan S. Koontz, Donnie L. Gordon, Trudy K. (Gordon) Mesaros, Jodi R. (Gordon) Clark and Hannah E. (Koontz) Richards; 21 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by sister, Helen Koontz Barnhart and husband, Paul; brother, James Koontz and wife, Gladys; sister-in-law, Marjorie Koontz; and brother-in-law, Merle T. (Whitey) Kendall and wife, Marion.
Services will be Monday, Nov. 5, 2012, at 10 a.m. at Maugansville Bible Brethren Church, 17904 Binkley Ave., Maugansville, with Pastors Richard Heckman and Sean Coffey officiating. Interment will be at Broadfording Church Cemetery, Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, and Monday one hour before the service at the church.
