[Bio by Sean Potochney]
Maria (Putorak) Krynitsky was actually born 27 Feb 1896 in Krynica, Galicia according to Church Baptism records (the 1895 birth year on her tombstone is off by 1 year). She was the daughter of Antoni Putorak and Anna Krynytska and was of Carpatho-Rusyn ethnicity. (See bio for her husband Nikolay Krynitsky for more information).

Maria and her eldest child, Milia, immigrated to U.S. in January 1921, where she met up with her husband, Nikolay, in western PA who had immigrated to America in 1914. In 1923 the family moved from western PA to Centralia, PA. Maria (or "Mary") Krynitsky lived on Railroad St. in Centralia until 1986 when the State of Pennsylvania bought out the houses in the town due to the underground coal fire.

Special thanks to my Ukrainian cousin, Solomia Krynytska, and her father Andrij for obtaining Maria Putorak's church baptism record (in addition to other church records from Krynica).
