Helen Alice Cruzan (nee Halter), 87, and a longtime resident of Stow Creek Township, died Friday morning, March 21, 2008 at The Cumberland Manor, in Hopewell Township where she had been a resident since November.

The wife of the late Bert Cruzan, who died in 2006, she was born in Bridgeton, and was the daughter of the late Alfred and Helen (nee Sheppard) Halter.

Mrs. Cruzan was a resident of Columbia Highway in Stow Creek for many years and had been a resident of the Goldfinch House assisted living facility in Bridgeton for 5 years before entering the nursing home.

She worked for several years at Price Brothers Lithograph Company, in Bridgeton, and later in an administrative position at the Cumberland Regional High School Board of Education office.

She graduated from Bridgeton High School in 1938 and was a member of the Seventh Day Baptist Church of Shiloh. She was active as a youth group leader with "Christian Endeavors" and was a deaconess at the church. She was also active with the Ladies Aid group at the church.

In her younger years, Mrs. Cruzan was a member and president of the Stow Creek School PTA.

She is survived by one son, George Cruzan and his wife, Patricia of Stow Creek Township; a daughter-in-law, Tina Cruzan, of Beaver Falls, Pa.; 5 grandsons, Mark Cruzan and his wife, Donna, Matthew Cruzan and his wife, Rachel, Andrew Cruzan and his wife, Nicole, Scott Cruzan and his wife, Arletta, and Carl Cruzan and his wife, Allison; and 10 great-grandchildren, Collin, Melissa, Lauren, Annelyse, Jacob, Sienna, Drew, Jacob, Rachel and Ava. Additional survivors include three sisters, Marge Daniels, of Stow Creek Township, Lillian Reed, of Oregon and Evelyn Lewis, of Florida; one brother, Alfred Halter Jr., of Virginia; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one son, John Cruzan, in 2004.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Mrs. Cruzan's memorial service at the Seventh Day Baptist Church of Shiloh, East Avenue, in Shiloh on Saturday, March 29, at 5 o'clock.

Rev. Donald Chroniger, the church's pastor will officiate.

The burial will take place privately in the church cemetery.

Friends will be received at the church Saturday afternoon from 4 until 5.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Freitag Funeral Home, of Bridgeton.
