Levi was born and raised on the farm of his Parents in Ferguson Twp., Centre Co., near the village of Pine Grove Mills. He moved with his Father to Barree Twp., Huntingdon Co., near McAlevy's Fort, where he met his wife, a widow with two sons and a daughter from her previous marriage. They were married on Dec. 22, 1896 and began their family, but troubled with situations in their life together,Levi moved a short distance away shortly after the birth of their second daughter, Edna, and lived with the McCauley Family and worked on their farm. Sometime after 1900, Levi left the area and went West, but even the general location of his travels has not yet come to light. His Brother, Daniel, received a note asking to send money, and knowing that Levi could neither read nor write, they supposed it to be a scheme by some culprit to steal money and therefore did not send any, and he was never heard from again. No one seems to remember where he was when the note was sent, other than out West somewhere. All traces of this man have been lost. "Information taken from note on the Dick & Nancy Gates Family Tree."
