May 19, 1952: Two teen-age girls and a boy, students at New Troy high school, sustained injuries when the light pickup truck in which they were driving collided with a 107-car Chesapeake & Ohio fast freight train at Browntown road crossing a mile north of Sawyer.

Rites for Train Victim Will Be Held Saturday
Three Oaks, May 29 – Funeral services for Roland Philip Sonnenberg, 16, who died at 7:25 a.m. Wednesday , at Memorial hospital in St. Joseph, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Trinity Lutheran church in Sawyer.
Ronald, son of Fred and Helen Zimmerle Sonnenberg of Sawyer, died from injuries received in the train-truck crash in Sawyer on May 18.

Officiating at the services will be the Rev. E. G. Ripke, casketbearers will be schoolmates of Ronald.

Resides his parents Ronald is survived by a sister, Mrs. Leo Glaske, of Sawyer, and three grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Philip Zimmerle of Sawyer and Mrs. Fred Sonnenberg, Sr. of Michigan City, Ind.

He was a sophomore student at New Troy high school.
