VERNON C. MINKWITZ Sr., 72, of Millville, died at home Saturday.
Son of Harry E. and Francis Minkwitz.

A retired crane operator, he worked on the construction of many of the Atlantic City casinos through the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 825.
He later was self-employed, working in hydroponic greenhouses raising basil and his locally celebrated tomatoes.
He also owned and bred trotting ponies for more than 30 years.
Mr. Minkwitz was a district representative for the National Trotting Bred Ponies Association and also was a representative on the Trotting Bred Ponies New Jersey Equine Board.
He enjoyed pony racing, and traveled throughout the four-state area to competitions.
He was a member of South Vineland Methodist Church and of Shekinah Masonic Lodge 58 of Millville, where he was a past master of the lodge.
A World War II veteran, he served in the U.S. Navy and was wounded at Pearl Harbor.
Born and raised in Millville, he lived in California before moving back to Millville 40 years ago.
Surviving are his wife Eileen; two sons, Vernon Jr. of Hockessin, Del., and Harold of Hammonton; a daughter, Lillian McHugh of Dividing Creek; and two grandchildren.
