COOPERSTOWN — Mrs. Ruth Myraette Kane Rodgers, 95, formerly of Cliffside, died Monday, Nov. 22, 1999, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital Nursing Home.

Ruth was born in Hartwick on Feb. 13, 1904, a daughter of Emery and Minnie (Hitt Boyd) Kane.

Mrs. Rodgers was a graduate of Oneonta High School and then graduated from the Oneonta Normal School and received her bachelor's of science of education in 1946.

She married William T. Rodgers (who predeceased her on April 7, 1982) on June 23, 1940.

Ruth taught for several years in one-room schools near Oneonta, several years as principal and teacher at Middlefield and 20 years as fourth-grade teacher at Gilbertsville.

Mrs. Rodgers was a member of the New York State Retired Teachers Association, Otsego County Retired Teachers Association, the Golden Age Club of Oneonta (having served as president and vice president), the Middlefield Historical Association, AARP and the Center City Senior Citizens at Oneonta.

She enjoyed writing poetry, reading, needlework, bridge, playing pinochle and her love of teaching.

Ruth is survived by a sister, Mrs. Robert (Metta) Chambers of Dade City, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews; and great-great-nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by two sisters, Nina Finch and Mrs. Chester (Neva) Moore; and four brothers, Kenneth Kane, Clarence Kane, Charles Kane and Leon Kane.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, Nov. 26, 1999, at 2 p.m. at the Tillapaugh Funeral Home in Cooperstown, with the Rev. John C. Young officiating.

Calling hours will be on Friday, Nov. 26, 1999, from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Tillapaugh Funeral Home in Cooperstown, when the family will be in attendance.

Mrs. Rodgers will be placed in the receiving vault at the Tillapaugh Funeral Home in Cooperstown until burial in the spring in the Fly Creek Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial contributions may be made to the Hartwick Emergency Squad at P.O. Box 208, Hartwick, N.Y. 13348.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown and Milford.
