Cyrus Wilfred Gregg

Fairbury (Illinois) Blade: Cyrus Wilfred Gregg was born at Chaney's Grove, Peoria Co., Ill., on Oct. 23, 1840 and died at the hospital in Quincy, Ill., March 24, 1907, aged 66 years, 5 months, 1 day. When a small boy he removed to Osceola, Iowa, where he lived until November, 1872, when he again became a resident of Illinois, a greater part of the time being spent in the vicinity of Fairbury. He served three years and a half in the Civil War and was a member of Co. B., 18th Iowa Vol. Inf. Dec. 25, 1865, he was united in marriage to Rebecca M. Armstrong. To this union ten children were born, four of whom have preceded him to the better land. He has been a member of the Methodist church since the close of the war. He leaves to mourn his loss, together with the wife and mother, three daughters and three sons, Mrs. S. G. Morrison and Mrs. Logan Kring of Fairbury; Mrs. Lois Pratt of York, Nebr.; George L. of Forrest; T. Orville and J. Leslie of Denver, Colo.

Mr. Gregg was an old resident of Fairbury, having resided here many years. He was a good citizen and an honorable, upright man. His record in the service of his country is one of which his children may well be proud and his death marks the passing of another of that Grand Army of gallant men who were willing to sacrifice their lives to preserve the Union.

The remains were brought to Fairbury for interment and the funeral services were held at the M. E. church Thursday afternoon at 2:30, Rev. E. S. Wilson, assisted by Rev. M. V. Crumbaker, officiating. The family have the sympathy of all.
