Sawyer Man Is Killed at Michigan City
Michigan City, Aug. 6, 1931—Officers here today established the identity of a young man who was killed late Tuesday afternoon when he stepped into the path of a Pere Marquette passenger train at Risclay avenue crossing here.

The crushed and mangled body was identified as that of Edward Schmidt, 26, of Sawyer, Mich., and was claimed by relatives.

Identification of the body was brought about by reports of the accident broadcast by local officers. Efforts of local police toward identification were unavailing for no papers or other clues could be found on the body. The victim was dressed his farm clothes.

The body was removed to the Wilber funeral home and there identified and claimed by relatives.

The dead youth, who was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gottlieb Schmidt of Sawyer, was born July 3, 1905, in Sawyer. He was a laborer.
