Charles A. "Chuck" Eckerson, 70, of 211 E. Molloy Road, Mattydale, died Saturday. He was born in Schenectady. He retired in 1998 after many years as a prep cook at Dominick's Restaurant in Syracuse. He also had been a sign painter and groundskeeper, and was in charge of holiday decorations for the East Syracuse Parks and Recreation Department. He had been a window display designer for several area department stores, including Flah's and Edwards. He was an actor with local theater groups, including Syracuse Stage, and a member of the Mattydale American Legion Post 1832. He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War. His wife of 46 years, the former Suzanne Birchler, died in 1997.
Survivors: Three daughters, Sharlene Dwyer, Donna Church Kuznia and Kristine Tobin, all of Mattydale; a sister, Nancy Burchill of Jacksonville, Fla.; two brothers, Richard of Lugoff, S.C., and Thomas of Mattydale; nine grandchildren; a great-grandchild. Services: 10 a.m. Wednesday at Krueger Funeral Home. Burial, White Chapel Memory Gardens.
