Ruth Cooley DuLaney Perry, 82, of Tupelo, formerly of Mantachie, died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012, at her home surrounded by her loved ones. She was born Aug. 15, 1930, in Fulton to James Claburn Cooley and Velora Beene Cooley. She grew up in the Fawn Grove community and attended Mantachie High School. During her young adult years, she lived in Corpus Christi, Texas. As an Army wife, she lived in La Rochelle, France, and Tacoma, Wash.

She sang with the "Milam Harmonettes" on the first radio station in Tupelo and her sisters, "The Cooley Sisters," and her brother, Frank, for many years, singing all over North Mississippi. She traveled many miles throughout the southeastern states encouraging her girls, "The DuLaney Sisters," in support of their musical talents.

She owned and operated Ruth's Beauty Salon in Mantachie for many years and would go to various nursing homes on her day off to style hair for those who were in need. In the late sixties, early seventies, she was president of the Hair Dressers Assoc., Northern District, for the state of Mississippi and a lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 4057. During recent years she worked at Unity Broadcasting TV Station in Fulton with her sister, Doris, and brother-in-law, Bro. Grady Davidson. She was an avid reader, master seamstress, and enjoyed crocheting, gardening, watching birds, and she was fondly known by her children's friends as Mama Ruth and now Granny to friends of the grandchildren because of her loving heart.

She always found the good in everyone she met and never spoke an unkind word to anyone. She will be remembered for her fried apple and peach pies. Her greatest joy was spending time with her girls, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was loved by everyone who knew her. She was a member of Dorsey Baptist Church.

A celebration of life service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 12, 2012, at McNeece-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Mantachie with Bro. Danny Rushing and Bro. Grady Davidson officiating. Burial will follow in Fawn Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Holland Funeral Directors, Tupelo Chapel, and Friday at McNeece-Morris Funeral Home in Mantachie from 9:30 a.m. to service time.

She is survived by four daughters, Deborah Jones (Tim) of Mantachie, Vicki Rushing (Danny), Michelle Williams (Mike) and Marsha "Yoyo" Godwin (Butch), all of Tupelo; the father of her children, Joe DuLaney of Fulton; one brother, Frankie Cooley (Doris) of Eggville; 10 grandchildren, Rachelle Wilson (Chris), Mark Jones (Emily), Arleen Fogel (Carl), Bradly McDonald (Midori), Molly Chapman (Kenny), Clay Godwin (Laine), Laura Godwin, Emily Burleson (Mark), Brian Rushing (Kim) and Riley Henton; 15 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Sandra Cooley of Mantachie, and brother-in-law, Grady Davidson of Mantachie; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins; a special family friend, Charlene, and Mrs. Annie Pannell, her caregiver; and near friends, too numerous to mention.
