Veteran Record Executive. He began his music industry career in 1949, with the management of the Tommy Dorsey orchestra. Getting involved in new talent and music direction, he signed Bob Dylan up with Witmark & Sons in 1962. During the 1960s and early 1970s, he worked with Peter, Paul & Mary, Kenny Rogers, Helen Reddy, Deep Purple, Electric Light Orchestra, Laura Nyro and Olivia Newton John. He served as an executive at Warner Bros. Records, Capitol Records and MCA Records in 1976, was named president-chairman of United Artists Records, which he purchased in 1978. In later years, he was active in the independent label side, founded JRS Records in the early '90s, and in 2004 announced the formation of Burbank, California based Insane Records. Cause of death, heart failure at age 77.
