Mahoning Dispatch, Fri, 2 June 1961

"Marion M. Diehl, 58, High street died of a heart attack about 1:30 pm Tuesday while playing golf at the Tippecanoe Country Club. He had been playing with Asa I. Skelton and others, and their attempts to revive him, as well as those of two physicians playing nearby, failed. Mr. Diehl was born in Berlin Center, Aug. 27, 1902, a son of John Henry and Elizabeth Kale Diehl, and his entire life was spent in Mahoning county. He graduated from Alliance high school and after attending Mr. Union College, he taught in area schools for several years. He abandoned a teaching career in 1928, joining the staffs of the Farmers National bank and the Farmers Savings & Loan Company in Canfield. In 1933 he was elected assistant secretary of the Savings & Loan Co., and following the death of T. C. Rose, former secretary of the Association, who died on Memorial Day 1951, Mr. Diehl was elected secretary. A few years ago he was also elected a vice president.

Mr. Diehl was a member of the Canfield Methodist church; Masonic Lodge; Canfield Community Club; the National and District Chapters of the American Savings & Loan Institute, and Sigma Alpha Epsillon fraternity. He served for many years as a member of the Canfield board of education, and as clerk-treasurer from 1951 through 1959. Besides his wife, the former Lola Kathleen Enterline, whom he married June 24, 1933, he leaves a daughter, Mary Jane, a first-year student at Ohio State University; a sister, Mrs. Gertrude Webb of Youngstown, and a brother, Thurman Diehl of Greenwich, Ohio. Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. J. Meade Letts, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in Forest Lawn Chapel, where the body will lie in state from 12 noon. Friends may call Thursday evening at the Williams funeral Home. The family requests that material tributes take the form of contributions to the building fund of the Canfield Methodist church."
