Clarence V. (Chuck) Liddle, 83, of Parkersburg died April 14, 2009, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital from complications of Multiple Myeloma.

Chuck was born and raised in the Mid-Ohio Valley. He was the last surviving sibling of six children of J.V. and Thelma Liddle.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Mildred (Daugherty) Liddle. Additional surviving family members include his children, Ron Liddle (Carol) and Sandy Mullins (Dave); three grandchildren, Kimberly Dodrill (Vaughn), Tech. Sgt. Jeff Mullins (Misty) and Kendra Liddle; three great-grandchildren, Abby Dodrill and Chaeli and Chloe Mullins; plus a special niece, Betty Jean Wilson (Larry).

During World War II, Chuck was a member of an 8-inch gun crew of the highly decorated cruiser USS Wichita from mid-1943 through 1945. The cruiser received nine Battle Stars while he was onboard for actions in the south Pacific and Okinawa. He was baptized and a regular attendee at the North Parkersburg Baptist Church. He loved being around his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Chuck never knew a stranger and touched the lives of the people who knew him. He retired from UCC/Elkem Metal in 1984.

Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with the Rev. Rick DeQuasie officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
