Dr. J. T. Bowers prepared himself for the medical profession by attending the River Falls, Wisconsin, high school and teachers college, and pharmacy at Valparaiso University, and from there to Northwestern at Evanston, Ill., graduating in 1908, which year he married Bessie Rosenquist, at Ladysmith, Wisconsin.

Dr. Bowers was one of the first practicing physicians in the northwest and was a typical sportsman, believing nature to be man's greatest healer. He was also instrumental in the opening of the Red Lake Narrows development project at Thief River Falls.

Maintaining offices in the Battle Block, he was well liked and respected by all who knew him. He had a particularly large following among the Indians of the Red Lake Reservation.
