James Garrett Bullock was born Thomas Bullock, Sr., 17xx-1814 and Rebecca (Lee) Bullock. He was the grandson of James Bullock and Ann (Goodrum) Bullock Buckler and Phillip and Elizabeth (Thompson) Lee.

James Garrett Bullock was named in his father's 1814 will to receive twenty dollars less than all the other children except Ann, because of the schooling expenses his father had for him.

He was made the ward of John Lancaster in a guardian bond for $200 dated Feb. 11, 1822. The surety to this bond which is filed in the Washington County Clerk's Office in Springfield, Kentucky, was Ignatius Johnson.

He was ordained a Dominican priest at St. Rose Priory by Bishop Edward Dominic Fenwick, O.P., Bishop of Cincinnati, Ohio and founder of St. Rose Priory, on June 13, 1830.

His will is recorded in Washington County, KY, Will Book J, page 506 in Springfield, KY. It was written Nov. 10, 1832 and proven on Jan. 19, 1857. He leaves all his property to the St. Rose Literary Society. The witnesses to his will were James Herbert and John Johnson.

He is buried in the religious section near the east wall of the church.
