Sunday at noon, GEORGE DRENNER, a lad 13 or 14 years of age, was riding a colt, in company with several other boys, one of whom was his brother, all on horseback, when he met a sudden and violent death. He was a son of Silas H. Drenner, who lives about two miles southeast of Sharpsburg.

When the party arrived near James Friese's Farm, between Sharpsburg and Antietam Iron Works, a dog rushed into the road, barking furiously at the horses. The colt which George Drenner was riding plunged and reared, throwing him upon the hard roadbed and crushing his skull behind the right ear. The portion of the skull and head was mashed to a pulp, and the boy lie there, with the blood gushing from his ear.

As soon as his companions discovered how seriously he was injured, his brother rode rapidly to Sharpsburg and summoned Dr. E.M. Garrott, who went immediately to the scene of the accident, but found the boy dead. The physician stated to a representative of the Herald that death must have been instantaneous.

The boy was employed on the farm of John F. Schamel, of Sharpsburg, and tenanted by Franklin D. Grams. The farm lies at Antietam and the colt, which Drenner was riding, belongs to Grams.
