Eureka - Memorial service for William Gill, 90, of Eureka will be 3 p.m. Friday, April 8, 2005, at Carlsen Funeral Home in Eureka. Pastor Van Hurst and Pastor Tony LaPorte will officiate. William went to sleep until Jesus came on Friday, April 1, 2005, at Avera Eureka Community Hospital. William Gill, son of John and Augusta (Mayer) Gill was born March 16, 1915, at Medina, N.D. He was the second of six children. His family moved to Wisconsin when he was a child, where they lived for several years. They later returned to the farm in the Medina area. After he received his education, he worked for his father on the farm. He also spent summers working on a sugar beet farm in Montana. He was united in marriage to Edna Brenneise, daughter of Jacob and Christina Brenneise on Feb. 14, 1940, at Greenway, S.D. They spent their first summer on the Gill homestead near Medina. In the fall of 1940, they moved to the Brenneise farm northwest of Eureka taking over that operation. William worked hard at making the farm prosper and expanding when the opportunity arose. He loved the cattle and putting in a crop of wheat, watching it grow and driving the combine down the field which he did for 64 years. He was very good at fixing anything and imparted his talents and wisdom to his son, and later to his grandson. He was an active farmer until the spring of 2002, and then helped out where he could. He was a faithful member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church since his early 20s, also an avid student of the Bible and a member of the Bowdle Seventh-Day Adventist Church where he had been the children's and adult Sabbath school teacher, Deacon, Elder and church treasurer. William is survived by his wife, Edna of Eureka, his son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Roxanne of Eureka and two grandchildren, Matthew and Chelsea. His parents, four sisters and one brother preceded him in death. Carlsen Funeral Home of Eureka have been entrusted with arrangements.
