Lieutenant Colonel Clifton J. Gaudet, Retired, 82, died at 10:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 1, 2004, in Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center Hospital.

Funeral services will be held, in La Chapelle de Martin & Castille for

Mr. Gaudet was a native and lifelong resident of Lafayette and had been residing at Cornerstone South Nursing Home for two years.

Mr. Gaudet attended Cathedral High School, graduated from Lafayette High School and also attended Southwestern Louisiana Institute (ULL), prior to enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1943.

He served as an infantry officer in the U.S. Army with service in the South Pacific, Texas and California. He entered the Louisiana National Guard after World War II and attained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

Mr. Gaudet was a graduate of the U.S. Army Special Warfare School (Green Berets) and the Command and General Staff College.

He was employed with First National Bank in Lafayette and Johnson's Wax Corporation before assuming a full time position with the National Guard in 1964, from which he retired in 1986.

Survivors include his first wife, Nellie Bordelon Gaudet; one son, John F. Gaudet; one daughter, Dr. Renee M. Gaudet, all of Lafayette; and one brother, Donald Dale Gaudet, of Baton Rouge.

He was preceded in death by his second wife, Mary Hartman Blanchard Gaudet, formerly of Watertown, N.Y.; his parents, Lambert P. Gaudet and Beulah Coussan Gaudet; and a twin sister, Cleora M. Gaudet Dugas.
