OBITUARY from The Times, Streator, Illinois, Monday, 16 August 1943, page 10: "MRS. F. GILMAN IS SUMMONED MOTHER OF DR. GEORGE GILLMAN DIES IN HOME HER RITES WEDNESDAY. Mrs. Fred Gilman, aged 64, mother of Lt. George Gilman, practicing physician of this city prior to entering service, died in her home at 206 E. Wilson street at one o'clock this morning, following an extended illness. She was Lizzie Nimmo. and was born at Fairbury, March 9, 1879, the daughter of William and Katherine (Arbuckle) Nimmo. She received her education in the Fairbury public schools and at Illinois State Normal university at NormaL She taught in the schools of Lodemia, Flanagan and Fairbury for five years. On September 23, 1902, she was united in marriage with Fred Gilman and went to live on a farm near Flanagan. After a few years, they moved to a farm near Pontiac and then on to Weston where they lived for 30 years before coming to their present home, three years ago. In addition to her husband and son, Lt. George Gilman of the U. S. Medical Corps, Chicago, she leaves another son. Dr. William Gilman of Wenona and two grandchildren, Katherine Anne and George Everett Gilman of Chicago; a brother, William Nimmo of Fairbury and a sister, Mrs. George Carter of Normal. A brother, George Nimmo died September 16, 1932, and a sister, Kate Nimmo, on May 18, 1942. Mrs. Gilman was active in church work as long as her health permitted. Since coming to this city she has been a member of the Methodist church. Funeral services will be held at the Presbyterian church in Fairbury at two o'clock Wednesday afternoon . . . "
