In 1939 Marv joined the Wyoming National Guard and in 1940 he was transferred to Fort Lewis. While stationed at Ft. Lewis he met and fell in love with Norma Brassfield of Shelton. They were married in 1942.
Marv was a member of the U.S. Army 6th Rangers and served in the Pacific theater during WWII. He returned to Shelton in 1946 as a decorated combat veteran and Sergeant Major.
Marv was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great- grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Norma; sons Steve (Helen) of Selah and Tim (Shawn) of Union; grandsons Tim (Gina), Jon (Aria) and Jeff, as well as four great-grandchildren, Jack, Elise, Hans, and Finn.
Marv worked for ITT Rayonier for 37 years, retiring with Norma in 1983. His retirement years were filled with golf, travel, family, friends and laughter.
As an active community member and volunteer, Marv was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, 40 & 8 Club, Elks, Kiwanis, and many other service organizations.
A memorial service will be held on September 21, 2012, at 2:00 PM at Faith Lutheran Church, 1212 Connection St in Shelton. A private family funeral with military honors will also be held.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your favorite charity in Marv's name. The family is being served by McComb Funeral Home.
