Isaac Painter, III, son of Elizabeth (née Redd) and Isaac Painter, junior, was born in 1813 in Fairfield County, Ohio. His father was a sergeant in a militia company from that county in 1812-13. The Painter family later moved to Franklin County, Ohio.

Isaac Painter, III, in 1837 arrived in LaSalle County, Illinois, in the vicinity of the future town of Streator. He married Nancy Springer in 1839 or 1840; the couple had seven children who lived to maturity. Nancy Painter died in 1854.

Isaac Painter and Elizabeth Rainey were married around 1855. Elizabeth (née Sowder) was the widow of William C. Basore (died 1835), and of William Rainey (died 1851), and survived Isaac Painter, who died in 1869.
